Did Jesus say his people would have a study program? No. He said you will know them by their love. You ask who is preaching the good news world wide.. Nobody. There is still a very large percentage of the world who has never heard a remotely Christian 'good news' or point of view. You say nobody can say 'I don't know JW'... The majority of the population of the earth can say that. It happens to depend on where a person was born. If it is absolutely crucial that everyone hear the good news, why is gods organization unable to spread it to everyone? There are JWs in many countries yes, but they have a very small presence in most. Just because there are JWs spread out does not mean the good news is being preached 'to all the nations' meaning to EVERYONE. Even in Russell's day, he taught that the bible students had preached to all nations.. While they were still a tiny, insignificant group. Today, the JWs are still a small obscure group. It is very rare to hear that anyone takes them seriously. You can only beat the end times drum so long (130 years so far) before you become nothing more than a nuisance. Now let me ask you a question... How do you know that Jesus came into power in 1914? We're the bible students watching for him to do this at that time? What did God's organization teach about it at the time? What do they say now? Are you sure?

I love how this thread is still alive.. I don't think a single doubting creationist could get an ounce of assurance of their belief from the crap QC and his buddies say. Copied and pasted pages and videos of even bigger clowns than himself.. Sad. Most JWs do disbelieve evolution, but only because they have been lied to about it. This in itself will cause many to question.. It certainly did for me. If anything, QC's thread has been a great forum for presenting facts to refute creationist pseudoscience. Anyone can see it. So thanks, QC, keep it up. You help make more atheists every day.

Last night the one cool elder calls me
by confusedandalone ini figured he was going to arrange the committee and try to get me kicked out after the whole "big pile of books" labelled "take this shit".. well his call made me realize that more and more people ... elders included no longer take this religion seriously.
after he told me he heard what happened he actually laughed and said i would never expect that.
he then told me that it is apparent that i no longer want to be connected to the organization.

NO believing elder would ever offer that. Especially considering your attitude toward the cult. The second a Dub brain decides that someone doesn't go to enough meetings anymore or is leaving the org, the phobias kick in. There is absolutely no way he would invite you on a fishing trip with his buds from work if he were a believer. Actually most elders, no matter how liberal wouldn't go on a trip with 'worldly people.'
Tread lightly, don't want to set of his radar... But I say go on the trip! Let him open up to you. He has doubts, strong enough to offer this to you.
For all you know, he could be a member here.

Religious people are less intelligent than atheists, according to analysis of scores of scientific studies stretching back over decades
by besty inhttp://www.independent.co.uk/news/science/religious-people-are-less-intelligent-than-atheists-according-to-analysis-of-scores-of-scientific-studies-stretching-back-over-decades-8758046.html.
study found 'a reliable negative relation between intelligence and religiosity' in 53 out of 63 studies.
a new review of 63 scientific studies stretching back over decades has concluded that religious people are less intelligent than non-believers.. .

Quendi - go through your list and read into the beliefs of the people you have listed... Except for of course Michael Behe as was mentioned before... Not intelligent...
Then go ahead and ponder the fact that 97% of the members of the Academy of Science deny any belief in god.

How do we know Satan was evil?
by truthhurts13 ini believe a good judge would have to hear both sides of the story before making a final judgment.
however, i don't ever recall hearing satan's side of the story in the bible.
i remember only 3rd party hearsay evidence (which is not evidence).

I just read Letters From the Earth, by Mark Twain. The first several chapters are written from Satan's viewpoint as he observes the earth and humans. It is an accoun of Satan's letters to the archangels Michael and Gabriel. Give it a read, very very good. After that section it gets kind of boring, but most of it is definitely worth a read.

Makes you wonder, doesn't it? If their decision was led by HS, why was it clearly the wrong one?
The apologist 'Dub will claim that their decision was reversed because they didn't follow the direction of the HS, and jehoober corrected it. He always does!
I've never heard that announcement personally, but I did have a buddy who was reinstated and DF'ed again within a month or so.

Fading ... Do You Owe Witness Friends An Explanation?
by What Now? ini'm curious about what you all think on this subject.
when my husband and i became irregular about a year ago, and then inactive around 5 months ago, i felt that it would be hypocritical to take advantage of the social side of the witness community if we weren`t going to meetings or in service.
we stopped entertaining (which we did quite regularly - theme parties, card parties, movie nights, big turkey dinners, breakfasts on holidays etc), and i slowly stopped accepting invitations for get togethers, playdates etc.

Don't waste your time, I'd say. It hurts to find out how many 'real' friends you had, but be very very thankful that you both came out of the cult together.
That alone is something many of us on here would gladly trade our JW 'friends' for any day.

Scriptural list of gods anger?
by iCeltic incan anyone point me in the right direction, a good descriptive list of gods anger, genocide, vengeance and general things that we would view as bad and the scriptures next to it to show where these things are in the bible?.

Good point MrFreeze.
If you were told by some crazy prophet fella that 3 million aggressive people were going to come into your town to take everything you own, what would you do? They come thundering into your state demanding that you surrender, or watch your family die before your eyes before you are killed... God ordered the Israelites to kill every last one of them, even babies. That, my friend, is genocide. God-ordered genocide. Cold Steel, how you can say that isn't what the bible said is beyond me. You say the Canaanites were a cult that sacrificed children... So is the WTS, yet I have no desire to see them all brutally murdered.

Hortensia, a HG on your pathfinder can be a bit tricky for the backyard wrench puller. Not impossible, but a bit tricky. You may be better off finding a good used take out engine from a junkyard.

Yes! My mom.
She was DFed a few years ago, I was still a believer. I thought she was being stupid, I didn't understand... I was just mad at her. After about a year of not seeing her I saw her briefly while I was visiting my dad. Immediately I had an irrational feeling of dread and anger for her. I began to wonder, how can I feel this way toward my mother, because a religion (that I wasn't happy in, but thought was 'the Thruth') said so? I later learned that this was a cult-born phobia caused by brainwashing.
This was instrumental in my waking up. It took another year or so to sink in. Once she was reinstated, our relationship was never the same. Granted she was dealing with some mental issues, I couldn't shake this feeling that I'd betrayed her. I had chosen a religion over my mother. She would never admit it, but things will never be the same.
Once I woke up, immediately huge feelings of guilt set in. All in one day of thought, I tore up my blood card and decided that I would never shun anyone again. She was DFed again shortly after that. About a month after she was DFed I called her up. She was sobbing before she even answered the phone. I told her I love her unconditionally, and that I was so sorry about how I'd treated her last time. I said I can't in good conscience shun her. She thanked me for the apology but said we can't stay in contact, I had to shun her because 'it's Jehovah's arrangement'! I told her that I don't believe that, it's not scriptural and unloving. She would have none of it. That was over a year ago now... No contact. She is now trying to come back. It kills me that she lets a stupid religion stay between us. She has been dealing with some difficult mental and emotional issues, and I can't help or be there for her at all. Everytime I see an intro post on this board, I read it. In the back of my head I'm hoping that it might be my mom.
What kills me the most, is once I'm DFed (which will happen one day, they don't let atheists stay in the cong) she will shun me. She will know how hurtful it is, but after 30 years in and out of the cult and being in 'trouble' so many times she won't dare ignore what she sees as a scriptural practice... Jehovah's arrangement'.... Barf. If I ever had kids, nothing... NOTHING will come between us. Even if they grow up to be useless screw ups, I will still be there for them. That is what unconditional love is.
goddamn cult.
